Friedrich Gulda, who formed a kind of Viennese piano troika along with Paul Badura Skoda and Jörg Demus, once asked Rudolf Buchbinder if he wasn't bored with continuously playing Beethoven. "You can become fed up with food but not with masterpieces of the piano literature, even if you've played them hundreds of times" was the answer. Buchbinder will be bringing three magnificent gems to Lugano: Bach's third English Suite, Beethoven's Appassionata Sonata and Schubert's B-flat major Sonata. Buchbinder continues his "excavation work", claiming that the pianist's "profession" is to aspire to reach the summit of his art, even if he has no idea when and if this will happen, "because there is always something to achieve".
